New Report on WWE Buying TNA

A new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter suggests that WWE’s partnership with TNA Wrestling may come with a much bigger long-term play, with the option for WWE to purchase TNA outright. According to the report, WWE’s agreement includes both a purchase option and a “right of first refusal,” meaning if another party attempts to buy TNA, WWE can match the offer and take control.

This clause has fueled speculation that WWE could eventually acquire TNA to strengthen its market position and potentially disrupt its biggest rival, All Elite Wrestling. Recent rumors have linked former UFC owner Lorenzo Fertitta to a possible TNA bid, but with WWE’s contractual advantage, no deal could move forward without them having the chance to step in.

WWE and TNA Partnership

WWE and TNA announced their working relationship earlier this year, opening the door for cross-promotional appearances and talent exchanges. According to the Observer report, this collaboration isn’t just about nostalgia or fan service — it’s part of a calculated business strategy to elevate TNA as a No. 2 wrestling promotion in the U.S. market.

The thinking is that a stronger TNA could chip away at AEW’s market share, particularly as AEW approaches its next round of television negotiations in 2027. There’s even been talk of moving TNA’s weekly show from Thursday to Wednesday nights to directly compete with AEW Dynamite, a move reminiscent of wrestling’s “Monday Night Wars” era, albeit on a different night.

Whether WWE actually exercises its option to buy TNA remains to be seen, but the structure of their agreement makes one thing clear: no matter who comes knocking with an offer, WWE will have the final say on TNA’s future. For now, the partnership continues to grow, but its endgame could be far bigger than anyone expected.
