Hall of Famer Expected to Play Key Role in WWE & AAA Partnership

Rey Mysterio may soon take center stage in WWE’s growing partnership with AAA once he’s cleared to return from injury. According to WrestleVotes Radio, the company views the Hall of Famer as a cornerstone for their ongoing rollout of AAA events, positioning him for a major role when he steps back into the ring. Mysterio is currently recovering from surgery for a torn groin and ruptured eardrum suffered earlier this year, but is said to be making strong progress.

The timing lines up with WWE’s expansion of crossover events, such as WWE & AAA Worlds Collide Las Vegas, which featured major inter-promotional matches earlier this summer. Reports suggest another joint show could take place before the end of the year, possibly during Survivor Series weekend in San Diego, Mysterio’s hometown.

Rey Mysterio vs Dominik in San Diego?

The speculation surrounding a potential Survivor Series weekend AAA show has naturally led to talk of Rey Mysterio facing his son, Dominik Mysterio, who currently holds the AAA Mega Championship. Their family feud began when Dominik shockingly betrayed his father at Clash at the Castle 2022.

That betrayal eventually led to their match at WrestleMania 39, which Rey won, but fans have continued to call for another showdown. With Survivor Series weekend rumored for San Diego’s Petco Park, Rey’s hometown roots and Dominik’s rise as a champion make this scenario one WWE could be building toward.

Rey Mysterio’s Daughter Continues The Family Legacy

As speculation grows around Rey’s future, the Mysterio family legacy in wrestling expands. His daughter, Aalyah Mysterio, recently began training alongside other WWE stars at The Dungeon. With Rey’s recovery progressing, Dominik thriving as a champion, and Aalyah starting her journey inside the squared circle, WWE appears set on making the Mysterio family an integral part of their WWE–AAA plans heading into 2026.
