AJ Lee’s WWE Return Might Actually Be Happening
The long-rumored AJ Lee WWE return may finally be happening, and fans won’t have to wait long to see it. According to Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer, the working plan for WWE’s newly announced Wrestlepalooza 2025 on September 20 is a mixed tag match pitting AJ Lee and CM Punk against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch, marking AJ Lee’s first in-ring appearance since March 30, 2015, when she teamed with Paige and Naomi the night after WrestleMania 31.
Speculation about AJ Lee coming back to WWE has been building for weeks, but last weekend at WWE Clash in Paris, Becky Lynch interfered in the main event to help Rollins retain the World Heavyweight Championship against Punk, Jey Uso, and LA Knight, sparking rumors that WWE was planting seeds for AJ Lee’s return. Those rumors only intensified last night on WWE RAW, when Becky confronted Punk in the ring, and Adam Pearce later confirmed to Punk that SmackDown would be in Chicago, hometown of both Punk and AJ Lee, just weeks before Wrestlepalooza.
The timing couldn’t be bigger, with Wrestlepalooza set to be WWE’s first premium live event airing on ESPN and going head-to-head with AEW’s All Out pay-per-view. If this mixed tag match is finalized, AJ Lee’s return would headline a show that already promises blockbuster matches, including a vacant Women’s World Title bout and John Cena, reportedly facing Brock Lesnar. After years of fan speculation and recent reports that WWE higher-ups were no longer shutting down AJ Lee pitches, it appears the comeback fans have been waiting for is finally on the horizon.
